About Perfection
I am watching Chuck again. Third time probably, or fourth.
What I realised in this one was the mention of the word perfect.
Finding a perfect house to live in.
Proposing the girl of your dreams at the perfect location at the perfect time.
Finding the perfect gift to give to your loved one.
It is all about perfection. But what is perfect?
Perfect is just a notion that does not exist.
Or in other words, everything is just perfect as they are. Is it though?
Yes, it is.
Life as we know it is perfect. There is no perfect marriage proposal. Whatever we end up deciding to go ahead will be the perfect one. Because it was the prefect one. Because, it was the one we received the life changing response: YES!
Perfection. Perfectionism.
The world is perfect as it is. Or it is perfect with its imperfection!
Steve Jobs once said: You cannot connect the dots looking forward. You can only connect the dots looking backwards. It’s as simple as that.
What we need to do is to trust in the main scheme of things in life and that everything is going to be fine.
In the end, everything actually become fine anyway. Whether we like them or not. That is the beauty of life.
At the beginning of my career, I was tasked with managing elevator installations at The Palm Jumeirah, Shoreline Apartments Project. I did quite a good job. And I kept this on my CV throughout my career. over 15 years later, I was offered a contract work because of that job, because I mentioned “managing lift installations” in my CV.
My other work was related with surveys and lifts and some hands-on work. Because of my previous contract work, I got that gig as well.
After that, I was again contacted. This time, it was about surveys I did. They helped me to get the other gig.
When I think about life, it is not about doing the perfect thing at the perfet moment!
On the contrary, it is all about doing the thing we are working on and assume that the result will be perfect.
If the results are not as we expect, that still does not prove that what we did was wrong or not enough. Whatever we did was right and we can only see this looking backwards.
It is all about spotting the perfection amongst the imperfection. Or in other words, seeing the perfect as it is.
As the French say: The worst enemy of good is better.
Working for the better has no end, as it is a never-ending task.
